Mature Workers

Resources for Mature Workers

It may prove to be difficult for mature workers to find jobs, especially in competition with newly graduated students with a wealth of job skills. Older workers are also often the victims of downsizing and flattening of the corporate structure hierarchy. What is a mature worker to do?

Before looking for a new job, do what all job seekers do first: look at your finances and decide what kind of job you'll need, then assess your skills and education and figure out what sort of position you would be qualified for.

One can attempt to catch up by acquiring some of those skills. For instance, many older people can bring themselves to par by taking computer classes and other courses of newer technologies necessary for many of today's jobs. Some agencies may even provide computer training, so it may prove helpful to take advantage of those opportunities. It's important to keep abreast of the skill sets used today.
